In an effort to pay the impending rent, Brian Chesky and his roommates rented an air mattress on the living room floor. Since then, this quick buck has morphed into what we have come to know and love as Airbnb. The use of "air" in the name is an homage to the company's roots.

The world's smallest "house" has been listed on Airbnb! Located in Berlin, Germany, this one-square-meter waterproof construction was built for one person and included a bed, a desk, and a chair. The one-euro-per-night rental was on wheels and also held the record for being the cheapest listing in Europe.
The rental was in such demand that a young artist built a very similar unit in Boston, Massachusetts, which was also put up for sale.
